Ticket prices were £15 on the door, £13 in advance. I arrived at 11:45, to be greeted by bad news; the club had already reached capacity (750). The non-guestlist and ticket queue was told to leave. The bouncers said it was one in one out etc. I was ok though, having said that it was -9 celcius, so it wasn’t the most enjoyable 30mins waiting outside. However was it worth the wait! I got into the main hall just to see Jason Cortez hand over the decks to Eddie. A shame to miss Jason’s set but I will definitely be at Nuklearpuppy next time to see him play.
All I can say about Eddie Halliwell, apart from being a really nice bloke, is that he is a genius on the decks. Technically brilliant, it was just astounding to hear someone scratch live over hard dance and create these amazing warped effects. He was using 3 CDJ1000’s and a 1210, and he used them to such a high level. The moment when his hands turned into a blur while scratching on the crossfader will stick in my mind for a very long time. His energy on the decks really, I felt, uplifted the crowd. His tunes were typical of his style and progressed from a more electronic sound to some mammoth hard trance breakdowns. Listen to Mixmag’s Eddie mix cd and you’ll know what I mean.
The crowd was crazy as usual, Nuklearpuppy does just attract nutters up for a wicked laugh. The atmosphere was friendly and really jumping. Everyone had their glowsticks and was reaching for the lasers!
This was definitely one of the best nights out I’ve had in a long time! Just go see him play wherever you can!
Pro’s:
The huge inflatable dogs on the ceiling
The music (Phil York, Jason Cortez & Eddie Halliwell)
The crowd
The lasers
There were no con’s.
You can see photos from the night in the UKCD Photo Gallery.
